This natural ingredient has great cleansing and toning properties and blends well into cosmetic bases such as creams, clays and lotions. Although it is beneficial for all skin types, it is particularly useful for dry and sensitive skin.
Chamomile has gentle, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which can help to calm, soothe and heal itchy, dry and irritated skin conditions, including skin allergies such as eczema. It can be used to soothe tired, sore eyes by soaking cotton wool pads in hydrolat and placing them on the eyes for 10 minutes. It can also be used in a cool forehead compress to help ease headaches and migraines or in a room or pillow spray to aid a restful night’s sleep and calm overactive children.
As it is so gentle and mild, Chamomile Hydrolat can even be used with small children and babies. Try adding up to 50mls to the bath water to soothe irritated skin conditions such as nappy rash. This will also help to calm restless infants at bedtime.
