A fresh outlook for Spring - Aromatherapy Tips

A fresh outlook for Spring - Aromatherapy Tips

An old worldly proverb says “no matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow!” Well, here it is!  After a long, dark, grey Winter, it’s so lovely to see the daffodils blooming, and to get a glimmer of warmth and brightness from the sunshine! It’s looking crisp outside; for me, this is a time of year that embodies positive change, cleansing, renewing and beginning the decision-making process - and its implementation - for the rest of the year. The Spring proverb, to me, means that no matter how long you have to put up with the dark, light will always come back round, and it’s a reminder that if you did not have the dark in the first place, you wouldn’t appreciate the light!

So, with our essential oils, let’s reinforce and appreciate the newness, the changes - the light - with some lovely Aromatherapy blends! Use your Aromatherapy oils to create a fresh outlook for Spring - even if you don’t feel you’re quite there yet! Well… you do know what this British weather is like!

Freshen the Room with Essential Oils

On those days where it’s not yet quite feeling as positively ‘Springy’ as it could, add a fresh feel to the atmosphere with this uplifting, light and citrusy blend for a reminder of what this time of year is about!

Pop 3 drops Lemongrass essential oil, 2 drops Petitgrain and 2 drops Geranium on a tissue or cotton pad and place it somewhere in your room – perhaps in a pillowcase – to lift the feeling of the room. With uplifting citrus and pretty, balancing florals, you’ll be feeling more energised and uplifted, ready to tackle any project!

Cleanse and Detox Your Energy

In Chinese meridian terms, Spring is a time for cleansing gall bladder and liver energy, clearing out toxic waste ready for making decisions about the future.

To help improve your decision-making outlook at this time of renewed change, use a cleansing, detoxing spritz around your aura throughout the day to refresh your energy and aid balance. Try adding up to 10 drops of each of Lemon, Juniperberry and Sweet Orange or Fennel in 100ml Orange Flower Hydrolat and spritzing it in the air around you throughout the day! This is a lovely way to improve courage and initiative.

To help ‘cleanse’ your body you could also try our Detox Massage oil with Patchouli, Sweet Orange and Juniperberry. Try dry body brushing your skin with a natural-bristle brush before a morning shower. This will stimulate your lymphatic system and help remove toxins and waste. It will also improve the condition of your skin and boost energy levels!

Start at your feet and work upwards. Use long, fluid strokes on the arms and legs, moving in a direction towards the heart, and a circular motion on your torso and back. Adjust the pressure accordingly on different areas of the body. Shower afterwards to wash off dead skin cells and then massage in our Detox Massage Oil while the skin is still warm (again, moving in a direction towards the heart). This will moisturise the skin and support your body’s natural ‘elimination’ process.

Cathartic Spring Clean

The traditional British ritual at this time of year is to undertake the annual ‘Spring Clean!’ This can be a cathartic process, enabling a fresh start or symbolising a clean slate. It may be something that we avoid doing – but it can be motivating! Inspire yourself to dust down the old and clear out ready for the new this season. This is the time of year to get organised!

To help, set up your essential oil diffuser, or candle burner, to work alongside you, as you go about your clearing tasks! Diffuse an invigorating and concentration-boosting blend of Peppermint, Rosemary and Eucalyptus essential oils – try 2-3 drops of each! You’ll be done in no time!

‘Beautiful Yellows’ Chakra Balance

We’re surrounded by yellow this Spring in the daffodils and the odd bit of sunshine. Yellow is the colour associated with the solar plexus chakra, according to the Indian chakra system. Also called the ‘manipura’ chakra – or City of Jewels – this chakra is about personal strength, learning and comprehension, and self-confidence, and is often where anxiety is felt. During Spring, it may become imbalanced or perhaps even strengthened. There are some lovely solar plexus chakra-boosting essential oils, including Bergamot, Lemon and Melissa. Try diffusing these oils, or inhaling them from a cotton pad, throughout the day to increase strength and confidence, and gently pull you into the light of Spring!

Creative Energy

Spring is a time of energy, which gives us the perfect opportunity to be get creative, start new projects or breathe life back into existing ventures that may have stalled over Winter!

Blast out this blend to heighten your ability to conceptualise, implement new ideas and improve hopefulness!

Either diffuse 2 drops each of Grapefruit, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli, or add them to 15ml of Bath & Shower Gel to set you up for the day!

Energising Lime Vibes

For an energising boost – or to just super-boost that really positive and happy feeling that it’s Spring and Summer is on its way – try adding Lime essential oil into your aromatherapy blends!

To really wake you up and make you feel fresh for the rest of the day, add 1-2 drops of Lime essential oil into 5ml of Grapeseed oil and massage it into your body as a moisturising oil for after your morning shower or bath. To me, Lime really encapsulates the Summer season, and as we’re on our way there, it’s nice to have a reminder of where we’re headed! After all, no matter how long the Spring lasts, Summer is sure to follow, too!
