Juniper is an evergreen green shrub with bluey-green, needle-shaped leaves. Juniper trees are native to Europe but are now found have throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The female tree produces a blue/black berry from which the Juniper essential oil is steam-distilled.

Juniper has been known since antiquity for its antiseptic and diuretic properties and the aromatic twigs of Juniper were burnt in French hospitals up until the 1950's to help cleanse the atmosphere.

Juniperberry is one of the most valuable essential oils for aiding detoxification. It has an affinity with the urinary system and can also help 'cleanse' the mind and soothe stress related symptoms.

Safety Note:	Do not use during pregnancy. Avoid if you suffer from kidney disease. Use with caution in small amounts.
Skin:	Juniperberry's astringent, antiseptic and detoxifying properties are especially helpful for oily and acne prone skin. It may also be helpful for eczema (including where weeping is present), dermatitis, psoriasis, and dandruff.
Mind:	Juniper essential oil can help calm the nerves, reduce nervous tension, anxiety and mental fatigue. It is also thought to clear toxic waste from the mind and dispel negative feelings, including anger and confusion
Body:	Juniper oil has an affinity with the urinary system and is one of the best oils for helping cystitis. It can aid the digestive system and reduce fluid retention. It is believed to soothe stress or hormone related bloating and overindulgence in food and alcohol. Its analgesic properties are beneficial for joint and muscle pain and it can be effective in treating gout, rheumatism, and arthritis. It can also be useful for respiratory problems and period pain.

Anti-inflammatory gel for joint pain

Mix 50ml Aloe Vera & Seaweed Gel, 5ml Neem Oil, 8 drops Juniperberry, 2 German Chamomile, 10 French Lavender and 4 drops Eucalyptus.

Massage oil for those prone to cystitis

Mix 30ml Sweet Almond Oil, 4 drops Juniperberry, 6 Bergamot and 5 Sandalwood. Use regularly – especially when tired or run down.

Massage oil for PMT

Mix 20ml Sweet Almond Oil, 10ml Evening Primrose Oil, 6 drops Geranium, 5 Juniperberry, 2 Star Anise, and 2 Rose. Use regularly especially during the week before your period is due.

Detoxifying body scrub

Mix 1 tsp fine ground Dead Sea Salt, 1 tbsp plain yogurt, ½ mashed avocado, 1 tbsp pinhead oatmeal, 4 drops Juniperberry, 4 Cypress, 6 Geranium and 2 Fennel.

Anti-cellulite body lotion

Mix 50ml Organic Moisture Lotion, 20 drops Geranium, 10 Juniperberry, 10 Fennel, 10 Grapefruit and 5 drops Rosemary. Apply regularly after a bath or shower.

All-natural skin toner for oily skin

Mix 100ml Rose Hydrolat, 10 drops Juniperberry, 10 Cypress, 5 Lemon and 5 Geranium. Shake well and apply following cleansing to help close up pores and remove excess oil.
