Lemon is a photosensitive oil which means exposure to sunlight should be avoided when using it, particularly in the first few hours after use. Avoid in massage blends if the skin is over sensitive. Use a maximum of 3 drops in aromatherapy baths. Lemon can have a temporary bleaching effect on some skins (spot test if in doubt).
Lemon essential oil has antiseptic properties and is useful for treating oily skin and acne, and for reviving a dull complexion. It can help to stop bleeding, which makes it useful in washes for minor grazes and cuts. It is also a popular folk remedy for warts.
Lemon oil is an uplifting oil and is reputed to have antidepressant properties. It can help to 'spring-clean' the mind and enhance mental performance and memory function.
Lemon essential oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties and can help protect the body against infection. It can be useful for treating colds and flu and for stopping the spread of infection. Its detoxifying properties are useful in lymphatic drainage massage, and its ability to balance acidity makes it beneficial for problems such as rheumatism, arthritis, gout and digestive acidity. It can also stimulate and strengthen the circulatory system and can be useful in treating varicose veins.
