Our 100% natural Unscented Massage Wax contains a skin nurturing blend of Sunflower Seed oil, Coconut oil and Beeswax. It is formulated in exactly the same way as our other waxes but without the essential oils. It is ideal for both professional and personal use where an essential oil, and scent-free massage medium is required. This could simply be a matter of choice, or it could be due to pregnancy or other health issues which contraindicate the use of essential oils. The wax also makes an excellent base for therapists or home users who prefer to add their own choice of essential oils. See our Recipe tab for further instructions.
Like our other waxes, the fragrance-free massage wax is semi-solid at room temperature, but quickly melts on contact with warm skin. It provides the same slippage as a traditional massage oil but with added control. The addition of beeswax gives an enhanced grip, which can be adjusted accordingly. When used sparingly it provides a firmer grip which is ideal for sports massage and deep tissue work, and when applied more liberally it gives a beautiful smooth glide that is perfect for more gentle and relaxing techniques.
Our 100% natural formulation is rich in skin nurturing vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids and has emollient, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial for the skin. It is readily absorbed to leave the skin feeling beautifully nourished, soft and smooth but not oily.
The wax is easy to apply with no risk of spills – meaning less wastage and mess. To avoid contamination and prolong the shelf life we recommend using a clean spatula or spoon to scoop it out. Less is more, as a little goes a long way. Start with a small amount and add more if desired. The wax can be stored at room temperature but should be kept away from direct sunlight and other heat sources. If the room is particularly warm, the massage wax can be stored in the fridge.
Our massage wax is suitable for people with nut allergies. Coconuts are only distantly related to tree nuts and studies have shown that cross-reactivity is very rare. Anaphylaxis UK say: "there is no there is no general recommendation that patients with tree nut allergy should avoid coconut”.
Our unscented massage wax is ideal for making your own bespoke aromatherapy waxes. It is easy to add your own essential oils:
- Gently warm and melt the wax in a glass bowl over a pan of simmering water, stirring occasionally. Be careful not to overheat. You can also warm the wax in a microwave on the lowest setting.
- Add your chosen essential oils. 3% dilution is generally recommended for an adult massage blend or anywhere between 0.5% and 1.5% for elderly, frail or pregnant clients (subject to the usual safety warnings and contraindications).
- Stir well to ensure that the essential oils are completely emulsified into the liquid wax.
- Pour into a jar or other suitable container and leave to set at room temperature.
