Grapefruit essential oil has a fresh, tangy, citrus aroma. It is a cheery, stimulating oil that helps to energise the mind and body. It is also believed to help rid the body of toxins.
Grapefruit essential oil is obtained by cold expression of the fresh fruit peel. It can also be obtained by steam distillation but the cold pressed oil is of a much higher quality. It is one of the lesser known 'citrus' oils, but shares many of the same therapeutic properties. Unlike some of the other citruses, it is not photosensitive, which makes it a good choice if the skin will be exposed to sunlight after application.
Grapefruit is used for its 'sunny' antidepressant properties and is also a valuable diuretic, detoxifier, lymphatic and circulatory stimulant and digestive aid. It is also useful for skincare and for reducing aches and pains after exercise.
