Batana (Ojon) Butter

Batana (Ojon) Butter is cold pressed from the wild harvested fruit kernel of the American Oil Palm tree (Elaeis oleifera) that is native to South and Central America. The tree produces a reddish oval fruit that grows in large bunches. The fruit is about the size of a plum and contains a single seed (kernel). 

Batana has traditionally been used for skin and hair care by the indigenous Miskito Tribe in Honduras, who are also known as the “people of beautiful hair”.

The butter is orange-red in colour and has a characteristic nutty aroma. It is semi-solid at room temperature with a smooth, creamy texture. It is lightweight, easily absorbed into the skin, and does not leave a greasy residue.

Batana has a high concentration of minerals, vitamins A and E, and Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids that help to deeply nourish and improve the condition of both skin and hair. Its antioxidant properties help to fight free radical damage and reduce signs of ageing. It helps support the production of collagen to increase the skin’s natural elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Its anti-inflammatory action is also helpful for calming damaged, irritated and inflamed skin.

Batana is rapidly growing in popularity in the hair care market as it is thought to nourish and strengthen the hair and encourage healthy growth and shine. It is also thought to reduce breakage and hair loss.

The butter can be included in a variety of formulas including massage oils, body oils, moisturising lotions, body butters, shampoos, conditioners, hair oils and scalp treatments. 

Note: Batana is not to be confused with Palm Oil which comes from Elaeis guineensis
