Australian Sandalwood essential oil (Santalum spicata) is increasingly being used as a more sustainable and environmentally responsible alternative to Indian Sandalwood oil (Santalum album).

Australian Sandalwood is a small, shrubby tree native to Southwest Australia. It is grown commercially in ethically-managed plantations that are tightly regulated by the Western Australian Government and Department for Conservation and Land Management.

Australian Sandalwood essential oil is steam distilled from the tree’s stem, branches and rootball. Although it has a slightly different aroma and chemistry to Indian Sandalwood it is believed to have similar therapeutic properties.

Australian Sandalwood essential oil has an extremely tenacious soft, woody, balsamic, sweet aroma, with a dry, spicy, resinous top note. Like Indian Sandalwood oil, it also features in many leading perfume brands.
