Jasmine is a climbing shrub with fine, small green or variegated leaves and delicate flowers which are usually white. Native to China, Northern India, and west Asia it was brought to Spain by the Moors. It is now commercially grown in France, India, Morocco, Italy, China, and Egypt.
This beautifully fragrant essential oil is extracted from the aromatic white flowers, which are gathered at night when the perfume is at its strongest (this is why the plant is known as 'queen of the night' in India).
Like Rose, Jasmine is quite a costly oil as it takes a large quantity of flowers to produce a small amount of oil. The night-time harvesting and labour-intensive extraction process also add to its cost.
Jasmine Absolute is produced via solvent extraction. This is carried out at a low temperature which yields a fragrance that is almost identical to that of the flower. Like other fragile flower essences Jasmine is highly concentrated and only very tiny amounts are required to initiate therapeutic responses, or its full perfumery potential.
Known as the ‘King’ of oils, Jasmine has been regarded as a powerful aphrodisiac since ancient times. It has an affinity with the female reproductive system and is one of the best oils for treating a variety of sexual problems. It is also used extensively in high-end fragrances and toiletries.

Do not use during pregnancy. Use carefully as the oil's relaxing properties can impede concentration.
Helps tone dry, greasy, irritated, and sensitive skin. It is believed to promote skin elasticity and can help to reduce stretch marks and scarring.
Jasmine is relaxing and warming for the emotions. As a stimulating antidepressant it is particularly useful for depression where apathy has set it. Also good for stress-related conditions, nervous exhaustion, and for those who lack confidence.
Jasmine essential oil (along with Rose) is recommended for treating issues surrounding the female reproductive system. It is particularly good for menstrual pain and for use during childbirth to help with pain and to strengthen contractions. Renowned as a powerful aphrodisiac it is thought to help with sexual problems such as impotence, premature ejaculation, and frigidity. It can also be helpful for muscle pain and respiratory problems such as coughs, catarrh, chest infections and laryngitis.
