Lavandin essential oil is a cross between true Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia). This is apparent in its scent, which is less 'fruity/pear drops' than Lavender, but not as penetrating and camphoraceous as Spike Lavender.

The Lavandin plant is generally larger than true Lavender and has a higher yield which makes it a less expensive essential oil to produce. It is therefore commonly used for fragrancing perfumes and toiletries and for aromacraft items such as soap, pot pourri and bath salts.
