Ravensara has strong antiviral properties and is often used as an alternative to Tea Tree where a more attractive scent is needed. It also has muscle relaxant and analgesic effects which make it a popular oil for muscle tension relief.

Ravensara aromatica is a magnificent tropical and highly aromatic tree which grows to a height of 20m in humid evergreen forests. The tree has fragrant leaves, bark, and nuts, with a delicious anise scent. A native to Madagascar and other tropical Indian Ocean islands, the tree has a long history of use in those areas. The seeds were traditionally used in cooking, and the islanders also use the bark to make rum. Ravensara essential oil is often found in men's fragrances where it adds gentle spicy notes to the fragrance.

To boost energy levels

Run a bath of warm water, mix 5 drops of Ravensara essential oil with 15ml of Bath Oil or SLS Free Bath & Shower Gel and agitate the water to disperse. Relax in the bath for a minimum of 15 minutes. Avoid splashing water in the eyes.

For aching muscles

Mix 10ml of Arnica oil with 5 drops of Ravensara and massage into the affected area(s) twice a day.

For coughs and colds

Diffuse 6 drops of Tea Tree, 3 drops of Ravensara and 2 drops of Rosemary.

Add 4 drops of Spearmint, 2 drops of Eucalyptus and 2 drops of Ravensara to a bowl of steaming hot water, agitate the water to mix in the oil, lean over the bowl and put a towel over your head, close your eyes and inhale the vapours for up to ten minutes. Repeat this process several times a day.

Facial oil for blemished skin

Mix 75ml Organic Rosehip oil, 25ml Evening Primrose oil, 12 drops of Tea Tree, 6 drops of Ravensara and 6 drops of Lavender.

Anti-fungal foot cream

Mix 60ml of Moisturising Cream with 15 drops of Ravensara and apply to the feet after a bath or shower.
