Base Oils of the Month
Comfrey (Symphytum Officinale) is a perennial herb that can be cultivated or found in the wild in the UK and Europe (as well as North America and parts of Asia). It has hairy, broad leaves and pretty bell-shaped flowers that are either blue, pinky-purple, or white.
Our NEW English Poppy Seed oil (Papaver somniferum) is rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids to improve the hydration and elasticity of the skin. It is suitable for all skin types but is especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, irritated, damaged and ageing skin. It is also great for hair and scalp.
Peanut Carrier Oil (Arachis hypogeae), often sold in the UK as “Groundnut oil”, is known by a variety of names throughout the world, including Goober, Pinder, Earthnut and Ground Pea oil. It is extracted from compression of the peanut kernels, and is used extensively in South-East Asian cuisine.
Papaya Seed Oil (Carica papaya) is a delightfully light, virtually odourless lemony / orange coloured base oil. It has one of the highest naturally occurring levels of Vitamin A and C, as well as highly stable levels of Omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids.
Passion Seed Oil (Passiflora incarnata) is another less well known but highly nourishing oil! It is SO rich in nutrients, and a real discovery – both in terms of its therapeutic and beautifying properties!
Raspberry Seed Carrier Oil (Rubus idaeus) is a highly nutritious base oil that contains 83% essential fatty acids (Omegas 3 and 6) as well as high levels of Vitamins A and E - both excellent antioxidants that help to reduce free radical damage and premature ageing. It is ideal for mature and dry skin types, and it's powerful anti-inflammatory properties are also useful for inflamed skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.
